อย่าไปใจร้ายกับผู้สูงอายุเลย Don't be hard on the elderly.

 

This lady handed her bank card to the teller and said, “I’d like to withdraw $10.” The teller told her, “For withdrawals under $100, please use the ATM.” The old woman wanted to know why… The teller returned her bank card and said irritably, “These are the rules, please leave if there’s nothing else. There’s a line of customers behind you.” The lady remained silent for a few seconds and returned the card to the teller and said, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.” 

หญิงชราคนหนึ่งยื่นบัตรธนาคารให้พนักงานแล้วบอกว่า "ฉันต้องการถอนเงิน 10 ดอลลาร์ค่ะ" พนักงานจึงบอกเธอว่า "ถ้าจะถอนเงินต่ำกว่า 100 ดอลลาร์ รบกวนใช้ตู้ ATM นะคะ" หญิงชราอยากทราบเหตุผล... พนักงานคืนบัตรให้พร้อมกับพูดด้วยน้ำเสียงหงุดหงิดว่า "มันเป็นกฎระเบียบค่ะ ถ้าไม่มีธุระอื่นแล้วก็เชิญออกไปได้เลยนะคะ มีลูกค้าคนอื่นรอคิวอยู่ข้างหลังคุณค่ะ" หญิงชรานิ่งเงียบไปครู่หนึ่ง แล้วยื่นบัตรกลับไปให้พนักงานพร้อมพูดว่า "งั้นช่วยถอนเงินทั้งหมดที่ฉันมีอยู่ในบัญชีออกมาให้หน่อยค่ะ"

The teller was surprised to check the account balance. She nodded, bowed, and respectfully said, “You have $300,000 in your account, but the bank doesn’t have that much money right now. Could you make an appointment and come back tomorrow?” 

พนักงานรู้สึกประหลาดใจเมื่อตรวจสอบยอดเงินในบัญชี เธอพยักหน้าและโค้งคำนับอย่างสุภาพพลางกล่าวว่า "คุณมีเงินในบัญชี 300,000 ดอลลาร์ค่ะ แต่ตอนนี้ทางธนาคารมีเงินสดไม่พอจ่ายยอดนี้ รบกวนคุณนัดหมายแล้วกลับมาใหม่ในวันพรุ่งนี้ได้ไหมคะ?"

The old woman then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The teller told her any amount up to $3,000. “Well, please let me have $3,000 now.” 

 หญิงชราจึงถามว่าแล้วตอนนี้เธอสามารถถอนเงินสดออกมาได้เท่าไหร่ พนักงานตอบว่าถอนได้สูงสุด 3,000 ดอลลาร์ "งั้นขอถอน 3,000 ดอลลาร์ตอนนี้เลยค่ะ"

The cashier kindly handed her $3,000, very friendly and with a smile. The lady put $10 in her purse and asked the cashier to deposit $2,990 back into her account. 

 พนักงานจึงหยิบเงิน 3,000 ดอลลาร์ส่งให้เธอด้วยท่าทีที่เป็นมิตรและมีรอยยิ้ม หญิงชราเก็บเงิน 10 ดอลลาร์ใส่กระเป๋า แล้วบอกให้พนักงานนำเงินอีก 2,990 ดอลลาร์ฝากกลับเข้าบัญชีไปเหมือนเดิม 

The moral of this story is... Don't be hard on the elderly, they've spent their whole lives learning this skill.

ข้อคิดจากเรื่องนี้คือ... อย่าไปใจร้ายกับผู้สูงอายุเลย เพราะพวกเขาสั่งสมประสบการณ์และเรียนรู้ทักษะเหล่านี้มาตลอดทั้งชีวิตแล้ว
